Raspberry Pi 5

Post by TugboatWill »

Will WTware run on a RPi5? If not, when is it planned to become available?

Update: wtware version v6.2.34, August 13, 2024, supports Pi5.

Not supported now. Not in short term. March or April 2024, I think. RPi5 is 64-bit only. New Linux kernel and full set of 64-bit binaries needed, +200MB to WTware distributive.

Now in WTware we have two Linux kernels for all thousands of x86 computers: one kernel for older 32-bit computers with legacy BIOS and second kernel for newer 64-bit computers with UEFI.

For Raspberry, we have another two Linux kernels. Because kernel for RPi2 and RPi3 won't run on RPi4.

For RPi5, we should make third kernel.

Two kernels for thousands of different computers from different manufacturers on x86.

Three kernels for five motherboards (RPi2, RPI3b, RPi3B+, RPi4, RPi5) from single manufacturer.

Thanks for the feedback. Will this go through beta or will it be a general release when it is ready?

Is it working officially now? We need to order two Raspberry for a customer, and we need to know if we take a Pi 4 or a Pi 5. Thank you.

Hello,

I bought a RPi5 2GB and I have a problem with booting. The process ends with a Kernel Panic - not syncing: Asynchronous SError interrupt message. I tried 2 various SD cards, re-downloaded the image and the same. In RPi2 the SD card works and the system boots and the RDP connection works. If I return the original RPi OS to the same SD card, it boots and works.
I tried searching the forum and found nothing relevant. any hint how to solve it?

Thank you.

Download this zip:

https://wtware.com/testing/202411112136.zip

Unpack file bcm2712d0.dtbo from zip into overlays/ folder on boot SD.

Will it work?
