Windows Server 2012R2 is now able to redirect USB to terminal services, not only to virtual machines

Full USB Redirection to RDP Session

Post by CarmeloLabadie »

Good day everyone!

I recently moved over one of our larger clients to an RDS server in Azure.

Everything is working well (files, VPN, remote access, etc.), but now I'm being asked to if we can redirect desktop scanners (ScanSnap and a Paninni check scanner). I did some research, and the results are rather confusing.

Has anyone achieved full USB Redirection of devices like this via RDP? Is it possible?

Thanks!

No. That is why RDP protocol have disk redirection, sound redirection (and local SIP in WTware because sound redirection does not work too in many cases), smart card redirection, not single USB redirection for them all. Many (most of, I think) devices' drivers are written too bad to work over redirected USB, that is 1000x times slower than real hardware USB.
