PXE/netboot on Pi3

Post by Gnome »

Hello!
Pi3 can generally boot over Network without SD-Card. Has anyone tried this for WT-Ware?
Description on the RasPi website didn't help me to get PXE-boot to work.

Any hints or experience on how to configure a Pi3 for netboot to WT-Ware without SD-Card?

Really? Give me an instruction. As far as I know, Pi3 can not start without SD.

Prepared the Pi3 as described and it seems to access the network for boot information (LAN-leds flashing) but nothing more happens. Screen is black. Any ideas how to get further?

Did you update the RPi firmware with the net boot settings from Raspbian?

Yes. Updated next_branch firmware and activated netboot option. Had the WTware netboot active before, starting from SD card, and it worked. RPi's netboot may not be working the same way as WTwares netboot...
Think this is more or less a question to the technicians at WTware...
Did anyone try to boot from blank RPi to WTware before?

I cracked the nut !!!

Managed to netboot WTware client without SD card.

There may be certain restrictions...
Let me have some tests done before I tell you more.

My 1st post so please be gentle with me ;) 1st thing to say is what an awesome product this is, and was just what I have been looking for..

I too am trying to get this to work, I have tested that I can get the Pi3 to boot as standard without SD from the network and that works fine (or at least it did after a fashion) But once I get past that bit I'm getting a little (very) lost.

What I'm trying to do now is bend it so I can get wtware to boot in the same fashion, so that I don't need to have an SD card in the Pi to get it to boot to wtware.

If anyone has any useful info or pointers they would be much appreciated

Thanks

I've made a bunch of progress on this over the last couple of days, but now I'm stuck.

I can get the Pi to boot and load up to the "Press DEL to enter SETUP" screen, thats when we run into problems, I then get the following on the screen

Code: Select all

ERROR: INTERNAL ERROR
WTware v.5.4.78/RPi
File: initrd.cpp
Line: 254
Please, report this information to WTware tech support.

Please, correct the error to continue.
WTware v.5.4.78/RPi documentation is avaialble at http://www.wtware.com/doc.html
Techsupport, forum: http://forum.wtware.com
    email: support@wtware.com
    Skype: wtware
and I'm dumped out to a # prompt on the machine, I'm going to be a little tied for time over the coming days but if anyone has any pointer I can test and report back results
