Dual Monitor

Hi Support, do you know if a second screen is supported when using GPIO VGA Output for RPi3?
https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/gert-vga-adapter/

Apparently this is supported in Raspbian kernel, in case that makes a difference.

Many thanks!

From your article:
“Where can I buy one?”, I hear you ask. Currently, nowhere.

Also, another one can be found here: http://www.dxsoul.com/product/raspberry ... -901369600

I like this one more because it is located on top of the HDMI port.

So, is it supported?

Ancient 15-pin VGA in on Raspberry in 2017? Never again. 15-pin VGA is a pain and should go with CRT displays.

It's still widely used though. The issue with HDMI is the licensing - it's unlikely to be possible to cover those costs with a product that will be made in the kinds of volumes we're looking at here.

DVI and DisplayPort are licensed too?

Most monitors comes with 2 ports. DVI and VGA.

As long as it looks good I wouldn't complain.

There are videos online of people using Raspberry Pi with dual display, I just want to know if WTware supports also dual display.

There is a Thin Client (WeeClient) that already comes with a WTware license that has Mini-HDMI and VGA

https://www.amazon.com/WeeClient-Plus-C ... B00OQS14OS

If that's the case, I don't see why would be a problem to support Dual Display with VGA and HDMI with Raspberry Pi 3

I just want to check if it is supported so I can buy the board and start testing.

I usually connect using 2 monitors, and I want to be able to RDP with WTware and Raspberry Pi the same way.

If Raspberry Pi 3 can connect to DVI (I use a cable from HDMI and it works) and Display Port at the same time I also would like to know, as long as I can have dual display, I am good.

Hi aka, I just realized that you are the one from WTware that answers.

If you need the card to test, I can send you one, I got 2 of them and they already arrived.

I need to know what to set the configuration as to make it work or to know if at some point you might be able to start supporting dual display for the Raspberry Pi 3 if you are not already doing it.

If you need the card I can contact support@wtware.com to see where I can send it.

Thanks

The issue is lack of frame buffer support in the kernel for the two screens concurrently. The secondary screen can only be accessed directly, for example using omxplayer and does not appear as /dev/fb1.

Perhaps it would be better to be able to bond two RPi based wtware terminals, over the network, so that the secondary screen output is processed by a slave device (no keyboard or mouse). The cost in reality is likely lower too than running a certified VGA (or HDMI) board in these small quantities, and that is before we consider custom cases etc.

Well, this is a blog related to the VGA HAT:

https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/gert-vga-adapter/

I think the last comment might help a lot.

I am not sure if this is right, but since you can use one screen to connect to one session, and the other screen to connect to the another session, WTware might be accessing the monitors independently.

I am sure that after they are able to test with the VGA HAT we will know if dual screen will be supported.

That hat has no ESD protection and no CE mark. In other words, it can't be sold as a product in the EU (and nor can it be sold in the USA, since likewise it has no FCC ID). Also the socket placement means it doesn't fit within a normal case.

I am not sure if that applies to that board.

Here is the board that I bouught:

http://www.dxsoul.com/product/raspberry ... -901369600

Also did some research for FCC and Open Source Hardware:

https://www.sparkfun.com/tutorials/398

And the document that tells you about the exemptions and all that:

https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CFR-2010- ... part15.pdf

Worst case scenario, this product fall under the category of:

"Assembled from tested components, complete system not tested"

Since all the components include a board, VGA connector, GPIO connector, another 10 pin connector, a led and some resistors.

About the case.

I got this one:

https://www.modmypi.com/raspberry-pi/ca ... plus2-case

I have mine ready already, connected and everything, just waiting for WTware to support the dual monitor for me to save the new version into the mini sd card. I even have 2 monitors connected.
