Printing to network printer

Post by butters »

Is there anyway to print to a network printer by setting it up in the config file on the client? \\servername\hp That is the windows path.

If this is not possible how do I set it up to print to the LPT port on the client? I have tried just turning on the printer in the config file and telling it to print there, but it does not show up on the terminal server. When I use a wyse terminal I just add the printer and it shows up in the printers and faxes of the terminal server. Is this not possible with WTWARE?

Thanks for the help!

1. Just type this path in Explorer, and then connect this printer. This action is common to all windows terminals, not wtware specific.
2. Wyse redirect printer through RDP protocol LTP port redirection. It's seems easy, but there are some limitations. This approach doesn't work for USB. Nobody except user of this terminal cannot use this printer.
WTware uses different approaches to printer sharing. WTware acts as hardware printserver. So you should do some more configurations, and set more features.
You should read two articles:
1. http://wtware.com/docs/config.html#printer
2. http://wtware.com/win2k3/printer.html
And set permanent IP address for this terminal. For MS DHCP, read this: http://wtware.com/netman/netman1.html#dhcp_reservations

Hi and thanks for the reply. I do understand how to add a printer through Windows. I do not want to use this method because in school systems I do not allow students to add their own printers, this ends up being a big mess. I use the Wyse terminals for most things and I just add the printers to windows CE 5.0 and this works great. I have a VBscript written so people can add their printer for the room they are in, but I run into the same problem with students deciding to print anywhere they want. I guess this method is not possible with this linux setup so I will move on to something else. Thanks for your reply I do appreciate it.
