Delete "disable_splash=1" line in config.txt on SD and try to boot form this SD. If you don't see colored square on screen, it's 100% not wtware problem. Something is wrong on hardware level - SD, Raspberry, HDMI cable or display.

Unfortunately I have exactly the same problem. Using a Pi 3 b+. tried WTWARE 5.6.24 and 5.8.88.

How can I get it to boot so I can press Esc to get the config menu?

Thanks.

That was it. (Hardware) Problem solved! Works like wonders on a RPi 2.

:-)

Thanks for all your help, and for such great piece of software. I'll share this 'new discovery' with my daughter's school, as they use quite a bit of terminals.

Well, I guess you're spot on! Checked the version and it looks like it's an original RPi Model B+, so not a Model 2 B. My apologies for the oversight. Will try a Model 2 in the next 24 hrs and report back.

You've done everything right. Please, try recent wtware version. If it will not run too, I have no more ideas :(
BTW, are you sure you use Pi 2 Model B, not previous Pi editions?

So I did a bit more troubleshooting and concluded the following.

First, the green flashes on the RPi are 7, which means that kernel.img was not found.
On the SD Card, I see kernel7.img but not kernel.img. I copied that file and renamed to kernel.img.

The 7 green flashes went away, but I still only see a black screen, or the rainbow screen when I comment out display_splash=1.

Thanks for the follow-up. Ok, let me start from scratch. Here are the steps I have followed.

I'm running on a Raspberry Pi 2.

1. Downloaded and installed pi.wtware executable from winterminal.com; only installed "WTware for x86" component as I'm doing this at low scale to start, so don't need the network boot components (for now).
2. Also downloaded, installed and ran 'SD Card Formatter' to wipe my SD card (format size adjustment = on).
3. Followed the RPi wizard on the Configurator. Chose options to boot from SD card.
4. Put SD card on RPi. Nothing shows up on screen, get a black screen.
5. Edited SD card on PC to comment out # disable_splash = 1; now I get the rainbow color screen.
6. Nothing happens after this. This is where I'm stuck. I have tried multiple monitors and a TV, and I still can't get past the rainbow screen.
7. Also tried a different SD Card, on which I had Rasbpian running. Same process as above. Get stuck on rainbow screen.

I then went ahead and ran WTware on a USB stick out of my PC, and that I was able to run successfully, so I can connect to my Windows Server 2012 R2 on a custom port.

Thanks in advance! Will keep trying! This worked great on the USB stick so looking forward to getting this going on the Pi!

Sorry, failed to understand your problem. Please, step by step, what you did and when you failed.

Hi - I'm new to WTware on RPi. I am experiencing the same issues as in this original thread. I am able to boot Raspbian, have tried 2 SD cards, several monitors. I get stuck on the rainbow screen. Using boot from local SD card.

I do run Remote Desktop on a custom port. But shouldn't the configurator on the RPi pop up the very first time? I would imagine I can customize there?

Thanks for any pointers!

Hi,

Thanks for the response I think that this was an issue with the HDMI to DVI adapter and monitor I was using as I now having it working on a different screen.

Thanks for your help

Does your monitor support 1920x1080 resolution?
Does Raspbian work on this Pi 2 with this SD and this monitor?

Please, try another SD card.

Then, remove this line:
disable_splash=1
from config.txt. Will rainbow screen appear?

If nothing helps, try "local boot, OS files on SD" mode in wizard. It's direct kernel boot, no u-boot preloader. Will it show image on display?

Unable to boot

by chris1182 » Tue Aug 02, 2016 4:03 pm

Hi,

I'm having problems getting WTware to work on my Raspberry Pi 2.

I went through the wizard using the latest windows based application and completed a local install to the SD Card. Options after this were to boot using DHCP and edit configuration files manually.

At this point everything looks to have gone ok as I can see all of the files on the SD card howerver when I put this into the Pi and power up I just get a blank screen on the monitor. I have tried all of the various resolutions including safe mode by editing the config.txt file. I also copied the config.txt from a working rasbian install which gave me a rainbow display instead of a black screen.

On the Pi it's self I see the power light and a flashing OK light which flashes in steady pulses for a few seconds then stops and continues (which looking on other forums suggests that the kernel is not being loaded).

Has anyone had this problem and if so can you advise what the problem could be? I am supposed to be seeing a menu initially or have a missed something?

Summary below :

+ No Display
+ Edited config.txt including safe mode
+ Copied working config.txt from Rasbian distro (get Rainbow Display)
+ Flashing OK light in approx 3-4 second pulses

Thanks in advance
